ABOUT MOTILAKAZ PROJECT
Motilakaz has been created in November 2020 by concerned citizens of Black River in collaboration with Le Pont du Tamarinier. Together, they formed a partnership to tackle social housing issues in the region of Black River.
In February 2021, Motilakaz joined forces with KRN (Kollectif Rivier Nwar) to help realise this project.
Background of Motilakaz
The project “Motilakaz” consists of identifying and realising social housing projects in the Black River region and finding creative solutions.
It aims to:
▪ Raise money to build sustainable housing
▪ Work in collaboration with the people who contribute to the construction of their homes so that they get empowered and the project is theirs:
✓ Volunteer labour
✓ Recycle/upcycle materials
✓ Sell their old building materials
✓ Raise funds in the community and invest their savings
▪ Propose a workshop session SALT (Stimulate, Appreciate, Link, Learn, transfer, and transform), where the beneficiaries participate to define their dream through creative yet simple exercises to stimulate their potential, appreciate their strengths, link, and learn to transform their lives and in turn transfer this experience and knowledge to others in need.
PROJECT #1
in progress – started in January 2021
At Karo Kalyptis in Case Noyale, two families have obtained a plot of land from the government. They needed to start the construction of their house before march 2021 against reappropriation by the government. To help them, we’ve decided to design and build a house divided in 2 apartments. It will rehouse 5 people (2 women and 3 children).
Through individual and corporate donations, we have raised enough money to purchase all the materials needed to build project #1.
PROJECT #2
In the middle of Cité EDC in Black River, around 15 families will be evicted. The aim of our next project is to help the families relocate and build their home.
